Uses for Your Old Moving Boxes
If you have ever experienced a move, you know that once you are moved into your new home or apartment you are drowning in empty boxes. Though recycling your boxes is an option, there are many other ways to increase your boxes life span. Learn some practical tips you can use to expand the life of your empty moving boxes.
Packing Purposes
Christmas is around the corner, and if you send gifts to family members that live out of town your empty boxes can come in handy. Save some of your boxes for mailing your gifts out of town. Also, if you mail photos or items that are fragile, you can utilize cut up cardboard as either spacers or barriers for added protection.
Old moving boxes can also be used for birthdays and holiday packing. All of us have encountered situations where a gift was difficult to wrap or was oddly shaped. Placing these items in old moving boxes will save you a lot of time and effort.
Floor Protection
Cardboard boxes are durable and have some thickness to them. They are perfect to protect floors or any surface inside or outside your home. If you are in need of a protective barrier to move large heavy items throughout your home, you can lay cardboard down in the areas you will be moving that item. If you are changing your car’s oil and you don’t want any oil on your driveway, place cardboard underneath your car during your oil change. These are just a few ways old boxes can be used to protect your floors from damage and grime.
Crafts and Entertainment for Children
If you have young children you know the excitement and creativity children can have with a large box. They can convert it into a small dollhouse or fort. They can also spend hours drawing and coloring on it, customizing their new little house exactly how they want it.
Halloween is right around the corner. What better way to make a makeshift robot, or Lego than with an empty box? Let your imagination run wild.
Pet Shelter or Play House
Do you own a pet, cat or dog? There are many ways to transform a simple cardboard box into a pet sanctuary. If you own a cat you can create a multi-level playhouse. Cut out windows and doors add some toys and watch your felines go crazy. If you own a dog, create an indoor dog house. Place some toys, a small bed and this will be your dog’s new favorite place to go to relax or shelter during a thunderstorm.
Additional Storage
The cardboard box’s primary purpose is for storage. If you are like the majority of Americans you have a lot of items and you don’t know what to do with them. Whether you are storing items in your home or in your garage, cardboard boxes are the easiest and most economical way to pack and store your excess items. If you want to get creative you can wrap the outside of the box (ex: Christmas wrapping paper, Easter stickers, etc…), and match the theme to correlate with items you have packed. This way you know visually that the Christmas paper box has Christmas decorations, plates, gifts, etc…
