Surviving A Thanksgiving Move

Thanksgiving is upon us. If you are one of the unfortunates who have to move during the Thanksgiving holiday season, your stress level is at its peak. To make it worse you may have to host Thanksgiving at your new home. If you find yourself planning a move and Thanksgiving at the same time, you will need to get organized and will need assistance to tackle both.

Pack Wisely and Organize Your Move

If you know your move will take place right before Thanksgiving, and you know you will be hosting in your new home, you will want to pack and organize your items wisely.

Write out a list of everything you will need from decorations, spices, food, utensils, plates, drinks, etc…Plan out your Thanksgiving Day and pack those boxes with those items. You will want to label those boxes so you know those boxes contain all of the contents for your Thanksgiving Day bash.

Once you have completed all of your packings, you will want to hire a moving company. You have enough on your plate the last thing you want to do is worry about loading and unloading all of your boxes and furniture, all while planning a Thanksgiving dinner for your family and friends.

Use Your Resources

If you have family and friends nearby use your resources. Try and recruit whoever you can for packing, unpacking, and for Thanksgiving Day assistance.

Packing

If you are able to recruit help you will want to maximize their time and efficiency. Prior to your helpers arriving you will want to have all of the packing materials (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, etc…) ready to go. Assign tasks to each person so they know their responsibilities and let them get to work.

Un-Packing

When your movers have moved in all of your items to your new home, you will want to prioritize the boxes that are the most important, especially for Thanksgiving. You will want to assign each helper to a room and let them know which boxes they need to un-pack with your guidance.  

Make Thanksgiving a Potluck

If you will be hosting a hoard of family and friends for Thanksgiving, make sure you have each person chip in to help. You have just moved and are still getting settled, your family and friends will understand that help is needed. Coordinate with each person letting them know of the menu or what they would like to bring to Thanksgiving.
