Moving Through Chaos

Moving Through Clutter

Moving can create chaos, however moving a room that is already chaotic can be overwhelming, but it can also be an opportunity. Prior to moving to your new home, you will want to start fresh. That means less clutter. So, you may be asking yourself where do I start? First you need to get organized. That means come up with a plan of action to tackle your mess. Below are some helpful tips that can help make your next Jacksonville Move a breeze.

1) Organize your home prior to packing. Prioritize your items into different piles: Keep, Donate, Get Rid Of. The last thing you want to do is transfer items from one home to another without purging the items you no longer want or need. So, prior to packing your belongings you will want to start cleaning and organizing. Remember don’t just throw your old items away, your junk may be someone else’s treasure. Donate what you can and for the items that are beyond repair throw away.  When you have purged the items you no longer want or have a need for you can begin the packing process.

2) Pack an overnight bag. Most people pack all of their items up and forget to pack a simple overnight bag with all of the essential items you need. The last thing you want to do the day of your move, is get all of your boxes into your new home and now you need toiletries, prescription medicine or fresh clothes that you cannot find. It is essential to pack a bag that has a few days of clothes, toiletries, medicines, mak-up, toilet paper, etc… This way you are not tearing open boxes trying to find items after a long day’s work. Another thing you want to make sure you do us when you pack this overnight bag keep it in your car. Do not place it in the moving truck as things can get misplaced.

3) Label your boxes. Moving can get very chaotic, so the more organized you are the smoother your move will be. If you need to create a ledger that color codes each room of your home. This way as you pack each room you have a designated color that will keep all boxes related to that room together and organized. If you are feeling real froggy you can also include a sheet of paper and write the contents of each box on the paper that is taped to the outside box. This way you know exactly what is in each box at a glance.

4) Get a moving app. Most of us live by our smart phones. Why not download an app that can help you with your move? There are apps out there that can help you organize your items prior to your move like Sortly. Another good app is Snap n’ Pack to help with labels and creates QR codes for your items you are packing.  These are just a few examples, there are several apps that can assist you through every step of the moving process. If you are overwhelmed and feel you need a little digital assistance to keep you organized, try some apps that will keep you on point.
